In 2004, after considerable research and a deep breath I began working on my first mechanical clock. My father, in a huge gesture of support, had given me a used mill and lathe on the previous Christmas, complete with an indexing plate and gear tooth cutters. This first clock would be a huge leap of faith. The amount of detail I chose to incorporate would result in a very time consuming art project that had no guarantees of working when it was finished. Over a year later "No.1" ticked for the first time, and not only was all of the work validated, but I was fueled by the success enough to continue making clocks.

No.1 is a weight driven single train clock movement. It's equipped with a recoil escapement and a one second pendulum. Each chain link was designed differently, and then cut one by one with a handheld piercing saw. The four bolts on the front holding the frame together, along with all of the internal screws, are hand threaded with dies and ground to shape with a rotary tool. When adjusted properly, this clock is accurate within 2 minutes a week. Because of sentimental value, this clock is not for sale.

No.1-1 by ~ericfreitas. Mechanical clock machined from 353 engravers' brass, entirely handmade from the mechanism to the frame, even to the individually designed and hand-pierced chain links. ( Suggested by ~LynxDaemon and Featured by `Kitten-of-Woe )

OK, I think most so called steampunk stuff is kind of kitsch and tasteless, but it's incredible to see somebody actually do things where the parts have a function! I am very impressed. I can't even imagine how hard it is to make a working clockwork...

I just knew that if I didn't make them, no one would. I couldn't just let the idea go, no matter how much work it would be, because I liked it too much. I thought that people needed to see the concept as more than a painting, or a computer generated image. I felt obligated to make it real.

thats really cool, i can understand, sometimes i feel like if i could do more with my picture, if only i could bring my idea to life and let people experience them like your doing, i would feel, i guess whole. thats why i plan to take my drawing skill and put it toward build houses. i want not to show the world these house like know aday homes, i want to show them different aspects, new ways of living. my home designs are not for your average home owner just like your clocks. i love the different view points from what society calls for.
