In these early stages of my clockmaking endeavors, each piece seems to have a first of something; this one is no exception. In my previous projects, paint was limited to surfaces that had paper on them. All of the brass on this clock was at one time covered in black paint, but was then worn away. This is congruent with the dial, which was once an unscathed piece of artistry, and now appears as if it's been left in a damp basement for years. Another new element is the edge of the dial, which has been turned on the lathe. Staying consistent with the rest of the piece, I couldn't leave this perfect lip in tact, so the bottom right has been visually weathered away.
Another thing worth briefly mentioning is the arc of small squares on the left and right of the face. These were painstakingly cut by hand with a piercing saw, and then further refined with small files.
Thanks. And may I ask you - where do you get your parts for these works? I would like to have some parts of watches for few necklaces but don't know where to find it?
Um......well...I make them. I bought a used lathe and mill, got some specialized cutters, and I cut the gears from a piece of sheet. If you'd like to see more of this process, my website will be showing gear-making soon. Thanks for showing interest! -E
